The Toncho
The Toncho or “Terri’s Poncho” was created because I wanted a dressy-looking poncho that was the perfect weight for Texas winters or Fall and Spring in parts of the world that get below 40 degrees! I am a cable lover and think anything with a cable is fancy so of course I had to make cables.
The result was this ruana-style poncho. It’s a one-size-fits-most pattern with general directions to increase both the width and the length should the knitter prefer to do so.
For the pattern as written, I used 1850 yards of MountainGoat Fiber Art’s DK, but she is not currently dying yarn. The same base is available from Horizon Fibers and is called Nimbus or from Charming Ewe and is called Yoshi DK. Testers were successful in a variety of other DK weight yarns and a worsted will work in this pattern as well without any changes in stitch counts.
I provide video tutorials for all the techniques used in the Toncho so an advanced beginner should not be afraid to take this on!
