The Toy Box Express
All aboard the Toy Box Express! This little locomotive, with its car ready to be filled with cargo and passengers, is waiting to leave the station and set off on all sorts of adventures!
This pattern includes instructions on how to make the engine and the train cars-- including the coal car/tender variation (Passengers are not included). It can be made in any yarn and hook combination you want. Just be certain that the fabric is firm enough that stuffing does not show through.
My engine is made in Vanna’s Choice Solids using five colors:
- Color 1: Cheery Cherry (110 yards)
- Color 2: Charcoal Grey (75 yards)
- Color 3: Silver Grey (75 yards)
- Color 4: Duckie (25 yards)
- Color 5: Silver Blue (15 yards
My cars are made in Vanna’s Choice Solids using four colors:
- Color 1: Aquamarine (75 yards)
- Color 2: Charcoal Grey (40 yards; 80 yards if making coal car)
- Color 3: Silver Grey (25 yards)
- Color 4: Duckie (15 yards)
The Toy Box Express is an Intermediate-to-Advanced-level pattern. Skills you will need include basic crochet stitches, increases, decreases, single crochet into the bottom of a foundation chain, crocheting two round together, surface crochet and seaming.
I have also added instructions for two different ways to attach the train cars together. The detachable couplings use loops and buttons to allow the cars to come apart, while the fixed couplings offers a permanent, child-safe way of joining cars together.
The pattern has a bit more assembly than a typical Monster’s Toy Box pattern, but I have included plenty of progress photos to help you along your way to making your own train.
