The Traveling Companion Shawl
The Traveling Companion Shawl is a top down square shaped shawl that grew out of a desire to have a simple project to take on a trip. I wanted a pattern that required very little chart watching and that I could knit merrily away on and only stop when it was time to change to the next stitch pattern. I have knit it in two different fingering weight yarn colour choices; a semi-solid and a two colour option. Knit in three triangular wedges, the shawl can be worn in a myriad of ways and doesn’t stray off the shoulders. It is an easy pattern and an excellent traveling companion on the needles and off.
Pattern was tested in the Free Pattern Testing Forum.
Galathea used the pattern to create a triangular, rather than square shawl with beautiful results.

The Traveling Companion was selected at the January 2013 KAL for the Beginning Lace Knitters Group. Here is the link to that thread:

January 2013: Due to several requests, I have added a modified lace chart to the pattern page to enable the lace border to be doubled or more. You can see, clairealthea used the expanded lace border for her triangular shawl.
Here is another idea for the pattern: aminozuur used it as a stash buster project. See shawl on left in shades of pink.
