This large, square shawl is begun with a center square, the borders are then knit outwards in the round, and finally an edging is joined to the live stitches of the border.
The sample piece was conecptualized for, and knit with a heavy lace weight handspun yarn - intended to be somewhat robust, and warming. However, it can also be knit in different yarn weights: finer, or possibly even a light fingering.
Some experience/skill with lace would be helpful, but the pattern could present an exciting challenge for the less experienced lace knitter.
