The Up’n’down is a baby / toddler / young child’s jacket / cardigan that’s knitted sideways. Starting at the button band the cardigan is knit across the right front, around the back and then finally across the left front. Stitches are cast off and on for the armholes. Shoulders are seamed and then the sleeves are worked top down and in the round.

The collar and all borders are knitted in moss stitch (known as seed stitch in the US).

The side to side approach creates vertical stripes, with colours changing halfway round the back. It’s a fun knit, and just as fun to wear!
