The Veronica Sweater
Veronica, she’s nerdy but fashion forward, dorky but endearing. She is hardworking and loveable yet fearless and quirky. She revels in her differences and laughs in the face of judgement. She is truly geek chic.
Veronica is made in the round – she begins life bottom-up. The body is worked up until the underarm; the front and back are then worked flat before being re-joined at the neck for the neckband. Stitches are then picked up around the armholes for the sleeves, resulting in an entirely seamless piece.
Bust measurements: XS (28-30”), S (32-34”), M (36-38”), L (40-42”), XL (44-46”), 2XL (48-50”), 3XL (52-54”), 4XL (56-58”), 5XL (60-62”)
I have tried to include as many sizes as I can, however, if you are sized outside of this range but would love to knit my pattern, please do send me an email (ponderandply@gmail.com), I would be happy to grade the pattern for you and include it in an update, for others who fall outside of this range.
Customisation Tips
Make Veronica your kinda gal (she’s real versatile):
➢ Choose “out-there” yarn for a jumper that really pops. Maybe neon, a bold colour or a variegated yarn (like my darling rainbow version).
➢ Create a dip dye effect by knitting the ends of the body and the ends of the sleeve in a lighter version of the main colour (like my blue dip dyed version). I did 32 rows of the lighter colour on the body and 32 rows of the lighter colour on the arms – so they looked even, but you do your thing!
➢ Colour blocking: choose a contrasting colour and use it for the ribbing (waistband, neckband and cuffs).
➢ Hold a single ply strand of mohair with your DK and make a fluffy, fuzzy Veronica (oooh, I need to do this next – watch this space). Please do not forget to swatch if you decide to do this!
