This scarf is knit half in brioche stitch and half in reverse stockinette. The ‘knitting’ over of some brioche stitches and vice versa may seem confusing to those who haven’t practised this before. However, once you get the hang of it it’s quite simple because it doesn’t need very many steps.

You need to be able to identify a brioche knit stitch (brk) and know how to knit it. That’s it.

The scarf begins with a k2p2 ribbing, switches to a brioche-and-reverse-stockinette ribbing, and then goes on to diagonal brioche-and-reverse-stockinette patterns in alternating angles. There are mid-way triangles as well.

You can use any colourful chunky yarn, and self-striping would be particularly fun.

I’ve added some instructions about knitting over the brioche stitches with reverse stockinette, and then vice versa on the WS.
