The Vivien Halter
The Vivien Halter is a sexy knitted halter top, designed with negative ease so she fits you nice and snuggly, hugging you in all the right places. She features a nipped in waist, cropped length (just long enough to reach those high rise skirts and trousers) and cheeky peekaboo windows which come in a variety of depths from FREAKY through CHEEKY to BREEZY, so you can choose what is comfortable for you. She closes with a hidden button at the neck, leaving the back open and flirty.
WARNING: She has been known to trigger sexy alter egos. You have been warned.
Construction
The Vivien Halter is knitted from the bottom up starting with the twisted rib band in the round. Her body is then knitted in stockinette with gradual increases to accommodate your bust. Her back is then ribbed and cast off, at which point her front gets your full attention. Working flat from this point, the centre peekaboo window is added first, by binding off centre stitches, then the left and right sides are worked separately and the side windows are created before all remaining front stitches are added back to the needle to create the neckband.
Sizes
Vivien is #sizeinclusive and comes in sizes XS (28-30”), S (32-34”), M (36-38”), L (40-42”), XL (44-46”), 2XL (48-50”), 3XL (52-54”), 4XL (56-58”), 5XL (60-62”)
I did not find testers for sizes 4 and 5 XL, so if that is you and you would like to test for me, please drop me a message and I will gift you the pattern in return for a few notes on fit so I can check the sizing. Those sizes have been fully graded in line with the others.
Choosing Your Size
Vivien is designed with 0-5cm / 0-2” of negative ease. Measure your bust and choose the size that is closest to your actual measurements. The ease has been subtracted from these measurements for you. If you are between sizes, please choose the smaller size. My testers testing the larger sizes found more negative ease (around 10cm / 4”) led to a better fit.
Yarn
Heavy fingering / sport / light DK yarn will all work for Vivien, the difference is in yarn density not gauge.
The heavier the yarn, the denser the fabric. My testers had success achieving gauge with all three, as well as fingering held with mohair and light fingering held double. If you would like a light gauzy fabric go with fingering and if you would like more structure go with DK.
Yardage
XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL)
Fingering (approx): 200-220M (250-320M, 300-340M, 350-430M, 450-480M, 480-520M, 530-560M, 600, 650) / 220-240yrds (275-350yrds, 330-375yrds, 385-470yrds, 500-525yrds, 525-570yrds, 580-615yrds, 660yrds, 710yrds)
not confirmed in testing*
Testers that used DK consistently used around 20-40M less than those who used fingering.
