The Water Bearer
This pattern is the first of my coming zodiac sign series. Aquarius, the water bearer, is the astrological sun sign for people born between January 20th and February 18th.
This is a fairly easy pattern to make once you have the hang of making color changes without fastening off and working in the back and front loops. Instructions for color changing are included in the pattern. I would rate it as an adventurous beginner pattern.
The pattern utilizes a piece of thin cardboard in the base to help it stand up straight. The embroidered Aquarius symbols around the jar are made using a simple backstitch. Your finished project should measure about 2 inches in diameter at its widest point and about 4 inches tall.
Materials needed:
- Worsted weight acrylic yarn (cream, brown, and blue). I used Caron Simply Soft in Off-white (15 yards), Taupe (4 yards), and Blue Mint (9 yards).
- Size G crochet hook, 4.00mm
- Yarn or Tapestry needle
- Scissors
- Polyfil stuffing
- Thin cardboard
- Pen/pencil
Stitches/techniques used in this pattern:
- Magic ring
- Chain stitch
- Single crochet
- Increasing and decreasing
- Slip stitch
- Color changing
- Working in the front and back loops
- Weaving in ends
This pattern does not include basic “how to crochet” steps. It assumes you know how to make the stitches and use the techniques listed above. However, if you are having trouble with the instructions, please contact me and I can share guides I find useful.
I cannot guarantee results when using materials other than what is listed above.
If you have trouble with the pattern instructions, please feel free to email me on the email listed in the pattern at the end, or send me a message here on Ravelry. I am always available for troubleshooting problems, and love to hear feedback!
