The Wavy Days Gloves
This is a made to measure pattern. What does made to measure mean? It means that there are no set sizes! A Google Spreadsheet that will automatically calculate everything for you is used to create a glove meant for your exact measurements. And a small bonus of this pattern being made to measure is any yarn weight and needle size can be used! However, like all made to measure patterns some “intuitive knitting” is required. By intuitive knitting I mean that you need to be able to follow instructions like ‘knit twisted ribbing for X amount of rounds’ or ‘knit stockinette stitch in the round, switching color as directed by the chart, for X amount of rounds’. Don’t worry though, it’s not as difficult as it seems! As long as you have a good understanding of reading knitting patterns you should be just fine :-)
This pattern is recommended for intermediate level knitters. There are a few techniques used that are not beginner friendly (All of the techniques that are used: Fair Isle (using 2 colors at once), Knitting in the Round, Cable Cast On, Twisted Ribbing, Reading Colorwork Charts, Using DPNs (Optional, circular needles and the magic loop can be used instead))
MATERIALS:
- Yarn: 2 colors of your preferred yarn weight, I recommend using a wool or acrylic yarn so the gloves have the ability to stretch. For the best results at least one of the colors should be solid and the darker of the two colors should be used as color A. Because this is a made to measure pattern, I would suggest looking at the testers gallery for rough estimates of how much yarn you need.
- Needles: double pointed needles (DPNs) that match the recommended size on the yarn label. If you would like to use circular needles for the gloves, you can always use the magic loop method or 9 in/23 cm circular needles. OTHER SUPPLIES:
- One stitch marker
- Scissors to cut your yarn
- Tapestry needle
- Flexible measuring tape NOTE: If you want to knit gloves that will match the wavy days beanie and scarf, you will need to use a bulky (#5) or heavy worsted (#4) weight yarn and 6mm needles. My samples for the wavy days pattern series were all made with petite wool in the colors ‘yarnicorn’ and ‘natural’. An example of a heavy worsted weight yarn would be petite wool, it is too thick to match a traditional worsted weight yarn and too thin to be considered a bulky weight yarn.
