In the spring of 2016, I knitted a scarf designed by Stephen West, The W, for the Edinburgh Yarn Festival. As I had a few bits of yarn left over, I wanted to make myself a matching hat using the same characteristics as the scarf: garter stitch, stripes, short rows wedges and modular construction. Thus this hat was born, and I thought I should call it The W hat. That said, I found the name a little unimaginative and I looked for an alternative, an alliteration with W, perhaps, and settled for Werewolf. But I wanted to a little more still, and added “Westport”, a charming area of Edinburgh. To my great surprise, I then discovered online that “The Werewolf of Westport” was the name of a film written in the Sixties but never made.

The Werewolf of Westport is an excellent leftovers buster, and a perfect last minute gift project.

Au printemps 2016, j’ai tricoté une écharpe dessinée par Stephen West, The W, à l’occasion du Festival d’Edimbourg. Avec les restes de fils du projet, j’ai voulu me fabriquer un bonnet assorti en utilisant les mêmes caractéristiques que l’écharpe : du point mousse, des rayures, des rangs raccourcis, des mailles relevées. Ainsi est né ce bonnet, qui devait s’appeler The W Hat. Trouvant ce nom quelque peu banal, j’ai cherché un mot avec une allitération de W, et j’ai trouvé werewolf (« loup garou » en anglais). Mais j’en voulais plus, et j’ai ajouté Westport, nom d’un charmant quartier d’Edimbourg. A ma grande surprise, j’ai découvert en cherchant sur le net que The Werewolf of Westport est le titre d’un projet de film écrit dans les années Soixante et jamais réalisé.

The Werewolf of Westport est un excellent projet pour finir les restes de pelotes et une idée cadeau de dernière minute.
