The Woodcutter's Baby
The Woodcutter’s Baby hat is a pattern designed to compliment the After Hours Woodcutter vest.
The knit is bound to draw attention while being worn, owing in part to the unusual squared off crown, but also to the eye-catching leaf panel on each side of the head.
This free pattern is written for 8ply/DK weight yarn, and to fit a newborn babe, approx 3-4kg (7-9lb) in weight, with a head circumference of 32.5cm.
This hat is constructed from the brim upwards, and is knit in the round. It features stocking stitch fronts and backs, with reverse stocking stitch side panels, featuring a forest leaf motif. The top of the hat is squared off.
You will need to know how to:
-
knit small circumferences in the round (either utilising ‘Magic Loop’ or with Double Pointed needles)
-
perform a 3-needle bind off or work kitchener stitch/grafting (to close the crown). If you are not familiar with these techniques you may need to reference a knitting guide book, or view videos on the internet.
