The Zen of Picking Red Currants in July
This pattern is worked top-down on two circular needles, but double pointed or magic loop could also be used. Two sizes given (cast-on of 66 or 70 stitches). I used 2.5 mm needles for my sock, but 2.0 - 2.5 could be used. A Fleegle heel is used - fun and easy, no picking up gusset stitches.
My in-laws have a massive red currant bush in the corner of their garden. Every July I pick it clean. I find a zen, a flow, once I start, and I can’t get up until I have picked every last currant. I will sit in the sun for hours, my family laughs at me for being so obsessive about it, but I just can’t leave until the job is done.
The zen is in the picking, but the eating part is good, too. We make muffins and breads. My MIL makes jam.
