These beginner-friendly, top-down pants capture the cozy 2000s vibe of a classic yoga pant- tight and fitted through the top and flared to your heart’s desire at the bottom. If you’ve seen the original fingering weight Beachcomber Flare pattern, you’ll know that this is its DK weight sister. Perfect for any body and any yarn.

Sizes
This pattern is written for finished waist sizes 24, 28, 32 (36, 40, 44)48, 52, 56“/61, 71.5, 81.5 (91.5, 102, 112)122, 132.5, 142.5cm.

Because of the stretchiness of knit fabric, these flares should be knit with 4-8”/10-20.5cm of negative ease for the waist and hips. Most testers noted that they would recommend choosing the smaller size and trusting the negative ease.

Materials
You will need at least five stitch markers (one different for a BOR), waste yarn and a crochet hook for a provisional cast on, waste yarn or extra needles to hold live stitches, darning needle, elastic thread, and your super amazing body.

Techniques
You will need to know how to do a provisional cast on, knit in the round, increase, hold stitches, cable cast on (or an alternative mid-row cast on of your choice), decrease, Kitchener stitch, block, weave in ends, and have fun.

Suggested Yarn
420 from thelittlewolfknits: 100% superwash merino, light DK weight 8-ply, 274yd/250m per 100g.
The sample used three skeins of They Don’t Know on 420.

Any light DK should work – just make sure to adjust to get gauge.
-Alternatives include:
o Knit Picks Swish DK
o Cascade Yarns - Cascade 220 Sport

Suggested Needles
Main Needle: US 6 (4mm)
Waistband Needle: US 5 (3.75mm)
But use whatever needle you need to achieve gauge!

Gauge
20 stitches x 28 rows = 4”/10cm stockinette knit in the round and blocked. When swatching, remember to cast on more stitches than you’re intending to measure so that you can get an accurate measurement (the end and beginning stitches tend to be looser). I recommend using this tutorial to start and finish the swatch for the most accurate measurements.

Yardage
If knit to pattern with a 26”/66.5cm inseam, your pants will use:
1032, 1151, 1274 (1401, 1530, 1658)1782, 1914, 2051yd/943, 1052, 1165 (1281, 1399, 1515)1629, 1749, 1874m for the pants.

Each additional 1”/2.5cm of length added to the straight length of the pants, will require approximately an additional 30, 33, 36 (39, 42, 45)48, 51, 54yd/27, 30, 33 (35, 38, 41)44, 47, 49m.

If using the suggested yarn, that would be 4, 5, 5 (6, 6, 7)7, 7, 8 skeins of 420.

Please remember that this yardage is the best estimate based on my specific measurements, yarn, and gauge; yardage may vary with different materials.
