Thinking Gloves
For still there are so many things that I have never seen:
in every wood in every spring there is a different green.
I sit beside the fire and think of people long ago,
and people who will see a world that I shall never know.
But all the while I sit and think of times there were before,
I listen for returning feet and voices at the door.
-- Bilbo’s song in Rivendell, The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien
The Thinking Gloves are a comfortable pair of textured, fingerless gloves to keep an old hobbit’s hands warm while he’s writing in his book on one of the many porches of Elrond’s house. Or to keep any person’s hands warm who loves to think and dream, or write, or draw, or indeed work at any craft. Or maybe to wear whilst walking in the woods and see in every spring a different shade of green.
