Third Eye Applique
A third eye, all-seeing eye, evil eye or cyclops eye applique with four variations: no eyelid, with a sewn-on pompom trim, with a plain eyelid or with a chakra rainbow eyelid.
Use to make a quirky festival top, a boho cushion cover, a t-shirt for yoga class or an unusual tote bag by sewing on and/or sticking on with Bondaweb.
Using Ricorumi DK yarn and a 4mm hook makes an eye about 26cm wide and 13 cm tall with no eyelid, or 17cm tall with an eyelid (101/4 x 5-7 inches). To make a bigger or smaller eye, use thicker or thinner yarn and/or hook.
This pattern contains colour crochet charts, written instructions using both American and British terms and photo tutorials on the magic loop, changing colour, standing stitches and invisible joins.
You will need:
- Rico Ricorumi DK in Black (060), Cream (002) and an iris colour such as Chocolate (057), Denim (034), Green (049) or Green Mix (005). I used Mustard (064) for the plain eyelid. For the rainbow eyelid; Red (028), Smokey Orange (024), Saffron (063), Pistachio (047), Denim (034), Navy Blue (036) and Purple (020).
- 4mm crochet hook.
- Tapestry needle.
- A means of attaching the applique to your clothing, e.g. a needle and thread and/or Bondaweb.
- Foam blocking mat and pins are useful but not essential.
- Optional: trim, e.g. 10mm pompom fringe.
