I couldn’t decide between a horizontal rib and a vertical rib for these socks, so I used both! This pattern turned out way better than I could have thought. There is a left and a right sock which I didn’t expect when I started out on the first one!
Sizes
Sizes 1 ( 2, 3, 4)
To fit foot circumference: 20 (21.5, 22.5, 24) cm / 8 (8.5, 9, 9.5) ins
Finished sock size: 17.5 (19, 20, 21.5) cm / 7 (7.5, 8, 8.5) ins
Recommended ease is negative to ensure the sock fits closely against your foot. If you are inbetween sizes, go down a size rather than up.
100g of yarn will make up to a UK size 10 of these socks. Adding a 20g mini-skein as a contrast colour will allow you to make a larger size.
Yarn
Banshee Yarns Cashmere Sock, 400m/100g,
100g in the main colour and 20g in the contrast colour
Shown in Magpie (m1) & Fleck (c1) which were dyed for Sock Club. However, other Cashmere Sock colours are available. You’ll find them here.
Yarn Substitution
Many 4ply sock yarns can be substituted into this pattern. Due to the detail in the pattern a semi-solid or only lighted variegated yarn is recommend however or the detail will be lost. When substituting other yarns, swatching is recommended to ensure that the required sock size is achieved and to ensure sufficient yarn is purchased for the project.
Recommended Needles
2.5 mm in your preferred sock needle type: DPNs, short circular sock needles or long circular needle for the magic loop technique.
Notions
Scissors, 5 stitch markers, darning needle for ends
Gauge
32 stitches and 44 rounds to 10cm / 4 ins measured over the 2x2 rib. The sock will require wet blocking and pinning to ensure the horizontal rib is correctly stretched to fit.
The unblocked, unstretched rib measurement is 32 stitches to 6.5cm / 2 ins
Construction and Techniques
The sock is knit in the round from the cuff down. The heel is a flap and gusset construction with the gusset being on the bottom of the foot. The toe is closed using matress stitch. There is a left and right version of the socks.
