This Blanket Runs On...
Blanket inspired by the colors of the beloved New England coffee chain.
When creating this blanket I wanted something that didn’t take a lot of thinking, but had enough variation that I wouldn’t be bored out of my mind. An entire blanket in garter stich? No thank you!
I also wanted something that would knit up fast. Therefore, this pattern has a minimal amount of moving the yarn from front to back (no seed stitch!) and a minimal amount of purling. All of the colorwork is done in slip stich patterns so only one color is used on each row. All the color changes occur on the same side so you can carry the yarn up the side for the entire pattern and don’t have to weave in a million ends.
I used worsted weight yarn in the following colors and quantities:
Main Color 1 (Pink) – 570 yards
Main Color 2 (Orange) – 570 yards
Background Color (White) – 790 yards
Contrast Color (Brown) – 170 yards
My finished blanket dimensions were 32” x 44” (80 cm x 110 cm).
You can use any 4 colors you want, but for some of the stitch patterns to be visible, the background color should be lighter than both of the main colors. The contrast color should be the darkest color and preferably less vibrant than all the others.
This pattern is highly customizable. You can change the number of stitches per row to make the blanket wider or narrower. You can use any weight of yarn or any needle size you like. You can increase or decrease the number of rows per section, or leave out entire sections if you don’t like a particular stich pattern. (Personally, if I made this again, I would do fewer rows for the center orange section. I think it looks too thick in the context of the entire blanket!)
