This Good Earth
This Good Earth is a worsted weight square shawl/lapghan worked from the center out, beginning with a circular cast on. It is worked in four triangular segments with an increase band of 3 stitches between each segment. The work begins with a pattern of twining cables like vines, interspersed with leaves, that fruits into a ring of acorn-like motifs; the earth as the fertile source of life. The final lace border represents the word “rune,” which calls to mind the agelessness of stories told by carving into the rocky bones of the earth itself.
