This Way and That Hat DK
This pattern is created with a knitted brioche, alternating with garter sections. The decreases create a
triangle pattern on the crown of the hat that spiral to a swirling end. Different yarns can be used for
different effects, including different minis, self-striping yarn, or just two solids! You pick
your adventure to make this hat go this way or that! This hat pattern will have a fitted brim, with a looser, slouchy fit for the rest of the hat.
Yarn: The sample was knit in Woolens and Nosh High Twist DK (100% SW Merino 3 ply, 243 yds/100 g). The main color is Black (approximately 60g or 145 yds) and the contrast color is Oh, Hello You! (approximately 50 g or 122 ys). This hat was also made in one skein each with Swish DK from KnitPicks.
Needles: US4 (3.5 mm) circular needle (12 in or 32 inch to magic loop) for the ribbing, US3 (3.25 mm) circular needle (12 in or 32 inch to magic loop) for the hat body, and US3 dpn if using a 12 inch circular for the body of the hat.
Gauge: For ribbing, 7 stitches and 8 rows per inch, unblocked.
For the brioche pattern unblocked gauge is 5 stitches per inch, 6 rows is 7/8 inch, one repeat of the brioche and garter section is 1 1/8 inch.
Finished dimensions: With the gauge listed, the ribbing circumference is 17 inches. The Brioche portion of the body of the hat is 21 inches around.
