Thornbury 25-01 Handspun
The blue and green mix in this project comes from an interesting handspun yarn sent to me by kofknits as part of my ongoing adventure in designing with handspun yarns. I had enough yarn for a cowl, and decided to work vertical stripes with garter stitch and slipped stitches. The texture of the yarn enhances the texture of the stitch pattern, and the changing blues and greens make the design quite dynamic. You can use the instructions for this project as a recipe, and knit this design with yarns of different weights or fibre blends—experiment (i.e., swatch) until you find the right gauge for the yarn you have. Consider knitting this design in a smooth solid or semi-solid colourway for a more “tailored” finished project. You could also play with the width of the garter stitch or slipped stitch stripes—or both!
The techniques you will need to know, or learn, in order to complete this project are:
- cast on and bind off;
- knit and purl;
- slipping a stitch, purlwise, with yarn in back’
- working in the round.
Welcome to Thornbury, where every season offers something extraordinary! From snowy adventures to sunny escapes, our local shops, restaurants, and events ensure there’s always something to explore and enjoy.
