Three Bridges Cardigan
This pattern has been tested, and even proof-read by 2 English teachers:))
If you are not into cables or lace - this cardigan has that little something that makes it worth making:)
The design started out when I tumbled with the name: “Three Bridges”. Every (or almost) every day of the week I walk with my dog in the close-by park where we cross 3 bridges on our way. All of them beautifully placed, with so much to look at: the channel, the birds, the trees mirrored in the water, an occasional kayaker.
This walk is one of the stones I build my every-day life around. I just wanted to make a cardigan with just as much every-day life put into it. My walk is never dull, and I really wanted my cardigan to be a little special, too:)
With its circular yoke and sleeve-edges worked in garter st and a slightly irregular stripe-pattern, raglan, button-bands in garter, long sleeves, waist-shaping and a stripe-patterned belt I fnd that the result is a cardigan with an expression of itself, easy to wear as well as flattering:)
Sizes
Finished bust measurements are 34.5/36.5/38/41/43.5/4648”. As the cardigan is worked top down you have the possibility of working sleeves and body to desired length.
Material I used the organic Merino yarn “Semilla” from BC Garn. This yarn is a DK weight that comes in balls of 50gr/1.76oz and 161m/176yards. You will need the following amount of wool:
MC (blue): 7/7/8/9/9/10/10 balls
CC (white): 1/2/2/2/2/2/2 balls
Needles used: Circular needle 3.5mm/US4 for the neckline, circular needles 4m/US6 for the yoke, raglan and lower body, dpns 4mm/US6 for the sleeves. Needle sizes are suggestions: take time to make a swatch before you get started:)
Gauge In garter: 22sts and 52 rows
In st st: 24 sts and 34 rows
Construction The cardigan is worked top-down in a completely seamless construction. Starting from the ribbed neck-edging it is knitted downwards through the circular yoke in garter and stripes, followed by raglan shaping. After the raglan work is divided for body and sleeves to be worked seperately. Body is worked back and forth with waist-shaping (optional). Sleeves are worked in the round and ended with the garter stripe-pattern and a ribbed edging. You have the possibilites of trying the cardigan as you go, making it easy to determine length and waist-shaping. The button-band and buttonhole-band in garter are integrated in the knitting.
The belt is worked in the round and in st st
Knitting skills I honestly think that an adventurous beginner would be able to work this cardigan! The abbreviations used are k, p, m1r, m1l, k2tog, ssk. The pattern is clear and easy to follow with lots of stitch-counts as well as useful tips and hints along the way.
