Three Season Stripes
Three Season Stripes was designed in 2021 as part of Rowan Tree Travel’s Armchair Travel Knit Kits. Our intent was to connect our travel community with the yarn farmers and artisans at our various destinations through the Covid-19 pandemic. We no longer offer these kits -- or are stuck at home due to the pandemic -- but you can still enjoy making this relaxed, breezy garment from the pattern. And if you get to purchase some of the original yarn whilst on one of our fiber adventures in the UK, that’s even better!
I love taking knitters to the UK. Over the centuries, the British wool trade, wool production and… well, wool everything has flourished, then diminished, then all but disappeared and most recently, enjoyed something of a renaissance. It’s a combined effort on the part of the UK’s Campaign for Wool, independent and locally-run wool mills, sheep keepers, knitwear designers, yarn store owners and handcrafters who want to support high-quality wool from their own backyard. One of the key players in this effort has been Blacker Yarns. They’ve been producing home-grown and breed-specific yarns in the UK since 2008. I salute them and all things British wool with this design for their wool/linen blend, Lyonesse. It comes in a fantastic range of colors and two weights.
Three Season Stripes is a colorful, easy-to-construct size-inclusive sweater, suitable for beginning knitters. Along with the pattern, I’ve included a tutorial that will help with blocking, seaming and finishing your sweater. For more advanced knitters, it’s quick & easy. You’ll have those colored stripes worked up and ready for wearing in no time! Three Season Stripes is designed with a boxy, relaxed silhouette – perfect for throwing on over jeans or sundresses in spring, summer or fall. Enjoy!
