I wanted to knit a soft scarf in an easy pattern for my daughter to wear at college. The pattern didn’t have to be reversible, but it had to be attractive on the “wrong” side. This is what I came up with. It’s a lot of yardage, but that’s because each of the yarns used is fingering or lace weight, and doubled. If you use sport weight yarns, halve the yarn requirement.

Here’s what I used:

Three yarns, two skeins of each:
a lace-weight alpaca. I used Cascade Yarns “Alpaca Lace” - each skein is 437 yds; 100% baby alpaca in colorway “Amethyst Heather” #1407
a mohair/silk blend, to add a halo. I used Cascade “Kid Seta” - each skein is 300 yds; a blend of 61% super kid mohair, 35% silk, 4% merino in colorway “Lilac” #19
a soft, single-colored sock yarn, for strength, or any soft fingering weight yarn. I used Good for Ewe “Sultry Steps” - 414yds; a blend of 40% superwash merino, 40% baby llama, and 20% nylon in colorway “Sugar Plum” #2090

All of the above yarns are doubled throughout
