Thrift Store Find
I found this lovely bit of lace in a local thrift store. I am always in awe of thread work, because I’ve done a fair bit myself, and I know how time-consuming (and painful!) it can be. I’ve only done doilies and center pieces myself and have never attempted a full-on tablecloth like this design was taken from. Unfortunately there was a lot of wear and tear to the piece, so I didn’t purchase it, but I took a photo to try to find the pattern later. I’ve gone through 88 pages of Ravelry thread patterns and never found this one, so I did my best to figure it out and wrote it up to share. If anyone ever finds the original design/designer please let me know, and I’ll take this down and link my project appropriately. I’m definitely not trying to take credit where it isn’t due!
I made a little 3 motif X 3 motif centerpiece. Along the way, I made a few modifications to the original design to bring some more modern techniques into play. The original uses chain stitches for the starting dc and the beginning treble stitches, so I’ve replaced the dc chains with my version of the standing double crochet/chainless starting dc and shifted over beginnings for the other rounds so that they start with a single crochet and are less noticeable. I’m also a big fan of magic loop, so that’s in there as well. Another thing I did is to use slip stitch as my join-as-you-go method. It looks like the original maker used single crochet to join. There is a slightly different look to how it lies depending on the join, so keep that in mind when you work yours up
Gauge is based on 1.75mm hook with #10 thread: one finished motif, blocked measures 2.5 inches square
Size is based on however many motifs you want to make. One can be a coaster, or you can do 14X14 (196 motifs) like the original for a tablecloth for your breakfast table
