Through the Darkness Cowl

Sometimes we need to get through the darkness before our light can shine. The Through the Darkness Cowl starts with a solid dark color and then goes through a transition phase before bursting into multicolored magic.
The cowl is specifically designed to work with variegated yarns that incorporate pride colors. Think beyond heteronormative expectations and the gender binary - the magic happens when people have the space to be themselves.
The cowl is worked in one piece from the top down. It uses only simple stitches, making it workable even for newer crocheters - though I strongly encourage the use of stitch markers as indicated in the pattern! The pattern includes notes for customizing the pattern in a number of ways, including creating a shawl with the same pattern.

Yarn, Yardage, and Colors
The pattern uses 205yds/187m/113g in each of two contrasting colors. It’s specifically designed to start with a dark solid and transition to a variegated with pride colors, but can also work well with any other color combo using yarns of any color style and level of contrast.
The pattern can be adjusted to work with any yardage, including an unequal amount of colors A and B. If you’re working it as a shawl, I recommend using 1 skein of color A and 2 of color B.
The sample was made using worsted weight, but the pattern works well with anything from a fingering to an aran.
Customizations
Notes are included for adjusting the following:
circumference; front center height; length of seam; adding more rows of either color or of the transition section; working it as a shawl
