A knitting pattern for a pair of worsted weight wool women’s mittens. This pattern is to fit an average women’s hand. This assumes a measurement of 19cm when placing a tape measure around the hand just below the knuckles. You may want to adjust gauge to make a smaller or larger mitten.

By taking the time to get the shaping ‘just so’ on the thumb gusset, I hope to show here a basic mitten pattern in a worsted weight wool that is not humdrum!

I give two methods for working the thumb; a traditional method and a second option for intermediate/experienced knitters to work through whereby I suggest turning the mitten inside out before working the thumb.

You will need to be able to knit in the round and work a 3-needle bind-off.
