Hello, and thanks to folks who have downloaded the pattern. I was recently (February 14, 2018) made aware that there are mistakes in the total stitch counts for the decreases. If you simply follow the instructions, you’ll be able to decrease just fine, but if you try to match the stitch count, you’ll be confused. I will try to revise the pattern but until then, I’ve deactivated it so that no one else will download it unawares.

If you downloaded this prior to 7/23/2010 at 11pm EST, you have a version with an incorrect pattern repeat. The main pattern repeat should read:

row 1• purl 1, {(k1, p1) repeat 4 times}, knit 3 • repeat from •-• to end of round.
row 2•(purl 9), knit 3• repeat from •-• to end of round.
row 3•purl 1, {(k1, p1) repeat 4 times}, knit 3 • repeat from •-• to end of round.
row 4• (purl 3), repeat 3 times, cable 3• repeat from •-• to end of round.

I made up this hat to try to satisfy a desire for a combination of deep brim, waffle stitch, and little cables. It worked out great- I was especially happy that I figured out a way to make the pattern continue through the decreases! Also, the pattern is a SUPER quick, very satisfying knit. The hat ends up being about 10 inches long with the brim unfolded, but more repeats could be added to lengthen the hat if desired.

The cables against the nubbiness of the waffle stitch makes me think of lightning against raindrops: hence the name!
