Thús is the Frisian word for home, a place that is more important in this time of ‘Stay Home, Stay Safe’ than ever before. The stitch pattern of this loop resembles rows of tiny interconnected houses. This symbolizes the idea that even if we are all staying in our own homes, we are still connected. Or, in John Donne’s words, ‘No man is an island’.

Pattern notes
Thús is knit flat (back and forth), starting from a provisional cast-on and ending with a three-needle bind-off. All patterning is done on the right side. Wrong-side rows are simply purled with a few knit stitches on either side.

Yarn
A fingering weight yarn with about 400 yds/360 m to 100 g will work. The pattern indicates how to adapt the length in case you have a little less or more yarn.

Needles & Notions
3.5 mm (US 4) knitting needles and a spare needle the same size for three-needle bind-off; 4.0 (US G-6) crochet needle for provisional cast-on; tapestry needle; blocking wires; T-pins; approx. 2m/2.20 yds of smooth waste yarn slightly thicker than your knitting yarn (for provisional cast-on).

Gauge
Blue version: 23 sts x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4” x 4”) in pattern stitch after blocking.
Pink version: 23 sts x 32 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4” x 4”) in pattern stitch after blocking.
Gauge is not crucial, but differences will affect the size of the finished loop.

Finished measurements
Blue version: 25 cm/9¾” wide x 124 cm/48¾” around.
Pink version: 25 cm/9¾” wide x 136 cm/53½” around.
