Fort Ticonderoga was taken from the British by the Continental Army under Benedict Arnold and Ethan Allen early in the Revolutionary War (1775). In Outlander, Claire and Jamie are at Fort Ticonderoga during the siege by the British in 1777. The fort, originally built by the French, was designed for defense in a star-like pattern.
