Three Birds Yarn Studio

This bulky weight ‘Tidal Beanie’ uses a combination of simple cable crosses to create a hat that is full of rich texture. This is a wonderful beginner cable-knitting project for anyone who is familiar with making hats, but looking to add a little dimension to their project.

Along with written instructions for this pattern, I have included a chart to follow for the body of the hat, depending on your preference.

Gauge
With US 11 (8.0mm) needles, 12 sts and 16 rows make a 4” square in stockinette stitch, unblocked

Finished measurements
9” tall with a 18” circumference

98 yards (90m) of bulky weight yarn Recommended yarn:
Malabrigo Chunky, Wool and the Gang Alpachino Merino, Juniper Moon Farm La Pampa
US 9 (5.5mm) 16” circular needles
US 10.5 (6.5mm) 16” circular needles
US 10.5 (6.5mm) double pointed needles
Stitch marker
Cable needle
Tapestry needle to weave in ends
