Tidal Flux Cowl
The Tidal Flux Cowl is our Featured Knitting Pattern for the 2023 Puget Sound LYS Tour. Knit in our own in-house hand-dyed yarn. Let the yarn do the talking and allow the pop color of this special space-dyed yarn guide the knitting. You’ll be delighted as you create a one-of-a-kind project!
This cowl for the adventurous beginner that wants to explore assigned pooling. The pattern uses a simple stitch texture and space-dyed yarn to create a spiraling pop of colored loops.
Color accented knitting, sometimes also called assigned pooling, uses “space-dyed” yarn that is dyed with mostly one dominant color and a short section of contrasting pop color. The short section of pop color and the type of stitch pattern combine to create an accent of color in an otherwise dominant colored pattern.
Color accented knitting sometimes needs a little zhuzhing or trial-and-error to find your-just-right-tension for the colors and shapes of the stitch motif to lay smoothly and get the colors to line up in a pleasing way. Assigned pooling projects can take on a life of their own.
Don’t worry… it’s just knitting.
Break the rules, they’re really only guidelines, and have fun with it!
Important: This design is written for assigned pooling yarn in worsted weight.

Our yarn has a color pop section that is about 12-15” in a 2-yard skein. The pop color in your skein may not be exactly the same length as our sample. Use a yarn that has a short section of color that is 25% or less than the total skein circumference.
