Tidal scarf
“Tidal Scarf” – not surprisingly – picks up the idea of my “Tidal Fall” summer shirt from 2018 and transfers the basic idea of the stripe pattern to a scarf, to be worked with 5 colors which blend into each other.
Apart from the stripe sequence, you would not need any written pattern at all for this scarf because it is so easy. A perfect project for beginners or for relaxed knitting meetings!
Two versions are described, with different gauges (and slightly different stripe sequences too):
- Thin: For a typical lace yarn used single-stranded, for a decorative indoor shawl (for the patient hand knitter or for machine knitting), with 28-30 sts on 10cm. Approx. 900-1000m needed.
- Thick: With two lace strands held together/ a Fingering or Sport weight yarn, with 22-24 sts. Approx. 1300-1400m needed.
You will need 5 colors, with 50g each. (The pattern specifies how much of the 50g-balls will actually be used, in case you are thinking of using leftovers.)
Yarn ideas:
- Ruppert Garne Soft Lamb (425m/ 50g, 100% Lambswool)
- Ruppert Garne Camellana (350m/ 50g, 100% Camel)]
- Ruppert Garne Lacashmi (375m/ 50g, 70% wool, 30% Cashmere goat).
All 3 yarn can be used either single-stranded for the thin version, or with 2 strands held together.
The sample was worked with 2 strands held together in Camellana in colors Amber, Misty, Cloud, Jeans and Blue Night. A big thank you goes to subknits at Ruppert Garne for the coorperation!
Gauge: You can decide between gauges of 28-30 or 22-24 sts – implications on the necessary stitch and rows counts and on yarn usage are listed in detail in the pattern.
