Tide Pool Chaser
Tide Pool Chaser is reminiscent of the colourful tide pools which form along the Willow Point Reef at low tide. Shades of blues, purples, greens and specks of orange, yellow and reds glisten and twinkle on a sunny day. One pool after another yields fascinating creatures of all sizes. Starfish cling to what ever moisture is left on the rocks and in crevices like cellophane, while sea urchins with their beautiful spikey spiny bodies make me think of underwater porcupines and are even more beautiful when the spikes disappear exposing the intricate pattern on their shells. Sea anemone tentacles appear to be dancing as they seek out plankton for their next meal. Hopefully, one day, you will have the opportunity to explore tide pools where you live.

For this Asymmetric Shawl I used Lichen and Lace Fade Set Day Four - 80/20 Sock Weight. The shawl commences with Silver Fox and works through the 7 colours in an all over eyelet pattern blending the shades in Bramble Stitch between the colourways. The cable is interesting and a little challenging since the foreground and background stitches trade places on many rows. I decided to add Sea Serpent heads for some added embellishment. These are knit and appliqued into place. I adapted my Sea Serpent Heads from a pattern for dragon heads by Elsebeth Lavold’s. It is in her book “ Viking Patterns for Knitting”. After the mitered corner I continued the cable along the castoff border and reversed the colourway to the end. The last cable is a ½ mitered corner and embellished with another Sea Serpent head.
This pattern is written only, no charts. Not for the faint of heart…this is a challenging pattern.
