Tideland
“Tideland” is a summer shirt featuring an interesting yoke construction with a built-in rounded neck opening and a slight drop shoulder, underlined by wavy stripes in the colors of the sea. It is shaped by circular decreases on the yoke in combination with wedge increases between underarm and shoulder.
Construction
The shirt is worked bottom-up, first in the round for the lower body, then back and forth on the yoke to create the sleeve openings. For (optional) sleeves, stitches are picked up from the sleeve openings, and the sleeves are added in top-down direction, which makes their length very flexible.
Yarn
Approx. 800-1200m of a (Light) Fingering weight yarn needed: 400/ 450/ 500/ 550/ 600 m main color (MC) and the rest more or less evenly divided between 3 contrast colors (CC) (plus optionally 200-300m MC for sleeves).
The sample (size M) was worked in Quince & Co Sparrow with 3x 50g MC “Sans” and 50g of CC1 of CC1 = “Moon” (grey with a hint of blue), CC2 = “Blue Spruce” and CC3 = “Surf” (marled light blue/ sand) each. Choose any summery yarn which knits up to the specified gauge.
Gauge:
24 sts x 36 rows on 10cm in Stockinette. Needle size: 3,0-3,5mm, depending on the yarn, especially on its elasticity. (2,0-2,5mm needle needed for picking up sts and edgings.)
Hint: Working at gauge 22 (or 26) will result in the piece getting one size bigger (or smaller) – this is only a rule of thumb, not an exact calculation.
Available sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL (bust circumference: 84/ 92/ 100/ 108/ 116 cm - 33/ 36/ 39/ 42,5/ 45,5 inches)
The piece is intended to be worn with just a tiny bit of ease.
Errata:
Size S: table on last page, last sentence for this size S: Additional decreases are to be made in row 7 (not row 5) - this is correct in the instructions
