When the tides go out, creatures who can’t withstand low tide conditions will hide in saltwater pools than form in cracks and crevices. This ecosystem is completely unique, and boasts a diverse range of creatures and plants not found anywhere else. The Tidepools socks call on these natural marvels with sections of lace that pop out from a sea of stockinette, revealing a complex section of life below the cuff and above the toes so you can bring the sea with you wherever you go.

Sizes
There are four sizes in the pattern: 1 (18cm / 7.25” foot circumference); 2 (20cm / 8” foot circumference); 3 (22.5cm / 9” foot circumference); and 4 (25cm / 10” foot circumference). Note that the sizes listed are measured around the sock, so find your size by measuring your foot and then subtracting 10%.

Yarn and Yardage
This pattern uses a fingering weight sock yarn, and needs approximately 160 - 240 yards. I used a speckled yarn to purposefully mix with the lace pattern, to mimic the way creatures hide in sand and stone and peek out from them. If you prefer the lace pattern to be completely clear, I would recommend a tonal or solid yarn instead.

Techniques
This pattern is suitable for sock knitters who are familiar with cuff down, in the round, heel flap and gusset sock construction. The lace chart uses basic knit decreases and yarn overs, and is both charted and written.
