This pattern gives full instructions on how to crochet and felt a crossbody fuzzy festival bag like the ones in the photographs. It’s an ideal item to take along to summer music festivals to keep all your essential items handy, or make several and gift one to all of your friends!

The pattern is 22 pages long with helpful tips, detailed instructions, and colour photographs to assist. You do not need to be able to read charts to use this pattern, each round and row is fully written with nearby photographs demonstrating what to do. Charts are included for nearly all of the sections of work for completeness and those crocheters who prefer them.

For much of the dual colour sections of the bag, we crochet inbetween stitches rather than into the top of them. After felting, this gives an attractive sunburst look to the work which characterises many tie dye techniques used on fabrics by tye dye artists; this is how the bag got its name. When joining the two halves together, we are working into the spaces again, this time it makes the contrast stitches look like they have been naively stitched giving a beautifully rustic, boho feel to the bag.

You will need to be familiar with making a magic ring, chain, slip stitches and weaving in of ends (very few!)
Additionally the main stitches used are
UK terms: double crochet (dc), half treble crochet (htr), treble crochet (tr) and double treble crochet (dtr)
US terms: single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc) half double crochet (hdc) and triple crochet (tr)

The finished bags in the photographs have been crocheted with Drops Lima (photograph 2) and Cascade 220 (photograph 1). Take care to ensure that the yarn you pick is feltable, many yarns (including Cascade) are treated with a superwash process which will inhibit felting. Any feltable yarn of a suitable Aran weight may be substituted. A smaller than usual hook for Aran weight yarn - 4mm (g) - is used to facilitate a dense fabric required for this bag.

The pattern gives instructions for two sizes:
Rectangular: 7¾ in x 5½ in (20 cm x 14 cm) after felting and will fit most models of larger mobile phones.
A shorter, square(er) bag measures 6¾ in x 5½ in (17 cm x 14 cm) after felting. The length of the strap is easily shortened or lengthened to account for all shapes and heights.

It’s very easy to felt the bag, it’s a simple matter of putting it in a washing machine with a towel or other items for agitation. You will need to borrow one of your pillowcases from the linen cupboard but don’t worry, it’s super easy to do and full instructions are given on how to achieve great results with minimum effort.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
3 x 50g Drops Lima (2 in Col1, 1 in Col 2) If you are making the slightly smaller square bag and you have a short strap, 1 ball of each may be sufficient
4.0mm (G) crochet hook (or whatever size necessary to achieve gauge)
Tapestry or darning needle to weave in ends
4 large rustproof stainless steel safety pins
An pillowcase in polyester/cotton or similar size scrap material for the felting process
Washing machine
Your usual brand of washing detergent
Button 25-30mm (one to one and a quarter inch) diameter in a colour to match or contrast your yarn
