Tiger Stripe Shaw
This is a garter, striped and curved stole, presented in two sizes. The unequal striping is accomplished with short rows and the curve is achieved with decreases in each of the stitch sections.
The story of this shawl started with an idea and two skeins of yarn bought for a class. I wasn’t fond enough of the class project to finish it, so the two skeins were consigned to my stash. The idea percolated and those two skeins were retrieved. I wasn’t sure if there would be enough yarn in the two skeins to finish the shawl but nothing ventured, nothing gained as the saying goes. Anyway, I did need more yarn. I literally had only inches of the gray (MC) left and had to match the red (CC) in order to finish the shawl. But the shawl is a prototype and I plan to make more shawls with other colors.
To make the smaller size, you would need a bare minimum of one skein of the MC and two of the CC. For the larger size, you would need to by two skeins of both MC and CC. But this shawl would be lovely in any fingering or sock weight yarn of contrasting colors.
Schematics of marker placements and short rows are included in the pattern.
