Tilda mittens are a pair of colorwork mittens with an easily memorized colorwork pattern and a fun twist in the design - the two sides of the mitten are worked with mirrored colors. Use two colors with a high contrast to create a bolder pattern or choose two with a lower contrast to have a more subtle effect. The pattern comes in three sizes and the length of the mitten and the thumb are fully adjustable.

The thumb is worked as an afterthought thumb in the contrast color to give a little more flexibility to the sizing. The thumb placement is marked with a bit of spare yarn and the thumb is knitted after the rest of the mitten has been finished. Choose a yarn that is approximately the same weight and a very different color than the yarn you are using for the mittens.

The pattern is written for magic loop but you can use double-pointed needles if you prefer.

Vuonue kierrätys- Tilta (70% Finnish wool, 30% recycled wool, approx. 230m/100g) or other dk/worsted weight yarn in two colors. Sample mittens are knitted with Raisio (Color A) and Hanko (Color B).

Needles
3,5 mm / US4 or size needed to obtain gauge. For colorwork, you may need a bigger size needle than for the ribbing and thumb if your colorwork gauge is tight, usually going up half a size is enough.

Tilda lapaset ovat helpot kirjoneulelapaset, joiden mallikerta on helposti muistettava ja sopii myös aloittelijoille. Lapasten eri puolet on suunniteltu toistensa peilikuviksi. Valitse lapasiin rohkeasti kaksi toisistaan selkeästi erottuvaa väriä, myös toisiinsa hyvin sointuvat matalan kontrastin värit sopivat hyvin. Ohjeessa on kolme kokoa ja sen kämmenosan sekä peukalon pituus on helposti säädettävissä.

Lapasten peukalo neulotaan jälkijättöisesti yksivärisenä. Peukalon paikka merkitään kämmenosaa neulottaessa ylimääräisellä langalla joka puretaan lapasen valmistuttua. Valitse ylimääräiseksi langaksi suunnilleen saman paksuinen kuin lapasiin käyttämäsi lanka mutta selkeästi väriltään erottuva.

Ohje on kirjoitettu magic loop- tekniikalle mutta voit käyttää myös sukkapuikkoja niin halutessasi.
