Tilework
Like many knitters, I love the look of Spincycle’s yarns. They are unique in the way they change colour, adding an unpredictability to colorwork and something painterly to any finished piece. To show off the colour changes in the yarn, I wanted a strong pattern that was visually easy to read and very graphic in nature. The end result reminds me of intricate tilework. (And a little bit of space invaders.)
The pattern is interesting enough to stand on its own with two solid colours, but if you’ve been itching to use up a yarn that changes colour, this is a worthy choice.

Tilework is knit from the top down in the round. The collar is cast on first, with short rows used to shape the neckline. The colourwork chart is established and carries through to the underarm. The yoke is divided into sleeve and front and back stitches, with the sleeve stitches put on hold. Underarm stitches are cast on, and the body continues in the round to the hem. The sleeves are taken off of hold, and worked from the top down to 3/4 length in the same pattern as the bodice.
