Tillerman
Tillerman is a continuation of rectangles worked in stockinette and garter, joined and ending with rows of easy eyelet ridges making this poncho a simple knit and a great layer to have on hand.
Size S/M is shown, the model is a size 12 and of average height.
S/M - 4 (L/XL - 5) skeins Prado de Lana Ovejas hand-dyed 100% Rhode Island Romney, 200 yards/183m per 4 oz/113g skein
Gauge - 17 stitches and 26 rows = 4“/10 cm in stockinette stitch, after blocking.
1 repeat (8 rows) of Garter Eyelet Ridge is 1½ “/3.75 cm deep.
The sample was knit with US8/5mm 32”/81cm circular needles.
Notions - Assorted stitch markers, removable and closed.
One DPN or cable needle is used to overlap the neck stitches.
Waste yarn and a crochet hook for the provisional cast on.
Finished Dimensions - 21¾ (24¾)”/55.25 (62.75) cm deep x 26 (31) “/66 (78.75) cm wide, flat and folded.
Please join new ball of yarn not at the edge, but between the garter band and the stockinette for a larger and more invisible weaving-in area, and to keep the edges smooth and consistent.
The poncho can be widened and lengthened; the cast on should be an odd number. After joining across the provisional cast on there will be an odd number for the Garter Eyelet Ridge pattern.
With a great gauge swatch and some simple math this pattern could be knit with other weights of yarn.
