Time
Time is a top-down, yoked sweater with colourwork patterns inspired by the music “Time” by Hans Zimmer for the Inception movie soundtrack. I love this music for its clever combination of strict rhythmic structure, mimicking the ticking of a clock, and swells of freer movement that create emotion and drama.
CONSTRUCTION
This garment is worked top-down, in the round. After the neckband, short row shaping is incorporated to optimise fit. The majority of the yoke features a stranded colourwork pattern. Once the yoke is completed, stitches are separated into body and sleeves, which are each worked separately and in the round. The colourwork patterns continue into the upper body and sleeves, then the remainder is worked in stockinette.
SAMPLE
The wearer is 5’10” / 178 cm with a 37” / 92.5 cm chest circumference. The sample has been worked in size L, giving the wearer 7” / 17.5 cm of positive ease at the chest. To accommodate the wearer’s height, the yoke has been worked to the depth of size XL and an extra 1” of length has been worked into the body and sleeves.
SIZING GUIDE
This garment is graded into sizes XS (S, M, L, XL) (2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL). Recommended positive ease is 5-10” / 12.5-25 cm at the chest and at least 1” / 2.5 cm at the upper sleeve.
Finished Garment Chest Circumference: 32 (36, 40, 44, 48) (52, 56, 60, 64)“ / 80 (90, 100, 110, 120) (130, 140, 150, 160) cm.
GAUGE
Using 3.25 mm / US size 3 needles, or needle size required to meet gauge, 26 stitches over 32 rounds in both stockinette stitch and colourwork, blocked, creates a 4x4” / 10x10 cm square.
Neckband, waistband and cuff circumferences assume you are working 7 sts per 1” / 2.5 cm.
YARN
The sample has been worked using Telling Yarns’ Resolute fingering-weight base (50% Bluefaced Leicester / 30% Romney / 15% Masham / 5% Zwartbles; 400 m / 437 yds per 100 g) in colourways Monstress as MC and Natural as CC.
I recommend medium to high contrast between the yarn colours you choose if you want to ensure the colourwork design is clearly visible.
