In the midst of all the chaos around us - inflation - politics - extreme weather, to name a few - I was reminded of my struggle through emotional and mental chaos almost 20 years ago. I had no idea how much living my life that way was affecting me and the people I loved, who surrounded me.

Anxiety is something that just doesn’t go away; it loves to be fueled, and I did a good job of making sure that it didn’t run out.

My journey toward becoming a better person, to be present in my life and for others, started with simply taking a time-out; removing the chaos and the loud noises surrounding me everyday, even if only for a short time. Granted, there is a lot more to this story than there is room to print, but my main point is this: IF WE DON’T TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES FIRST, WE CANNOT BE THERE FOR OTHERS IN THE WAY THAT IS NECESSARY.

As I continue to work through my issues to keep them at a low roar, I enjoy taking time for myself by relaxing and knitting, focusing on the pattern and the beautify of the fiber, rather than the drama around me. This simple process of down-time brings me joy. This joy refuels my heart and brain to be better equipped to tackle whatever chaos life throws at me on a daily basis.
