This scarf is inspired by the central column on the Tardis console as seen in Doctor Who. The colour block wedges of the scarf (created with German short rows) represent the rising and falling of the column as the Tardis is in motion. A herringbone border at top and bottom suggests the movement of the Tardis through space and time.

The scarf is knit lengthwise in garter stitch. You will have lots of stitches on your needles but the short row wedges break up the length. Stitches are picked up from the selvedge edges for the borders. Techniques used include German short rows, crochet cast on, and twisted stitches for the herringbone borders.

Gauge is flexible depending on the drape and blocking you prefer. This may affect the amount of yarn required, but this shouldn’t be a concern if you use 100g skeins. The maximum amount (i.e. for the largest size) of any one colour required is approx. 80g).

The colours can be varied and desired, and you could use more than three colours if you want to use up leftovers or smaller quantities of yarn. The sample for the pattern was knit with Dusty Dimples Sock yarn in MC undyed, CC1 Zoantharia, and CC2 Slimey.
