TIMOTEJ
Whether winter or spring, there’s nothing like a warming cuff around your wrist to fend off the cold wind or snow, and to avoid gaps between your sleeve and your glove. Timotej is a springlike cuff or wrist warmer project for leftover yarns or for some pretty mini skeins. The wrist warmers will also make sure your wrists and hands are warm and comfy until the spring arrives properly. Knit using garter stitch and short-rows, it’s a quick and fun knit and an excellent practice if you’re new to short-row knitting. Timotej is the Swedish name for timothy grass, or cat’s-tail. It’s a very common grass in Swedish meadows and is a true sign that the summer is coming.
GENERAL
Timotej is knit sideways, starting with a provisional cast-on. It is then knit from chart, and finally the two ends are grafted together using kitchener stitch. This creates a completely invisible seam. The base colour is always the same, while you can choose to switch the petal colour if you like.
SIZE
Approximately 14 cm high x 18.5 cm outer circumference (no blocking), using 2.5 mm needles. Fits somewhat snugly on a 17 cm/6.7” wrist. If your wrists are very fine, choose a smaller needle size to get a tighter wrist warmer, or larger if you want them a bit more relaxed.
YARN
Base color: Arwetta by Filcolana, 420 m/100g (fingering/4ply), in Natural white 101. Sample cuffs use 16 g, 64 m.
Contrast color: Humlalyckan Merino 80/20, 400 m/100g (fingering/4ply), in Snödroppe (handdyed). Sample cuffs use 7 g, 28 m.
