Tinier Stockings
Do you need a tiny gift or a stocking stuffer in a hurry? Do you like making little holiday ornaments and gift tags? Do you love to use up pretty sock yarn leftovers or those fun advent minis? Do you need a quick and easy secret Santa gift? Have you been wanting to try a new technique, but don’t want to commit to a larger project?
Tinier Stockings to the rescue! There are 8 different options! Plain, cabled, beaded, mosaic, Fair Isle, gansey, striped, and two-colour.
These are entirely knitted in the round using the Magic Loop technique and are completely seamless, with a minimum of finishing and ends to weave in. The seed stitch hanging loops are worked right off the top of the cuff.
SIZE:
Approximately 3.5-4” (9-10 cm) tall (from toe to top of hanging loop).
Size will vary according to yarn selection and personal gauge.
MATERIALS:
--Fingering weight yarn: approx. 5-6g total, depending on yarn choice.
--Fair Isle, mosaic, striped stockings will need approx. 2.5-3g of each of two colours.
--Two-colour stockings will need approx. 3-4g of MC and 1-2g of CC.
--US 1 (2.25 mm) needles, or size needed to obtain gauge
--Tapestry needle
--Beads (optional)
GAUGE | TENSION:
Gauge is not critical, but it will affect the finished size of the stockings. You are aiming for a fairly dense, rather than a loose, knitted fabric.
Approx. 32 sts = 4” | 10 cm in stockinette stitch.
SKILLS NEEDED:
Techniques include knit, purl, increases and decreases, knitting in the round using magic loop, casting on, Fair Isle (optional), knitting with beads (optional).
