Need a tiny gift in a hurry? Want to make the cutest little holiday ornaments? Like to attach something homemade to a gift? Love to use up pretty sock yarn leftovers? Feeling the Secret Santa pressure? Tinier Trees to the rescue! These are knitted in the round using the Magic Loop technique and are entirely seamless, with a minimum of ends to weave in.

There are options for plain, cabled, beaded, lace, Fair Isle, gansey, and 1- & 2-colour garland trees. These are perfect for using up those beautiful advent minis!

Techniques/Skills Needed:

  • Simple increasing and decreasing
  • Judy’s Magic Cast-On, or similar
  • Knitting in the round using 1 circular & magic loop
  • Working an I-cord
  • Kitchener Stitch (grafting live stitches together)
  • Optional: stranded colourwork
  • Optional: working with beads
  • Optional: simple lace Optional: simple cables

Sizing*
Using fingering weight yarn:
Approximately 4” (10 cm) tall (including hanging loop and trunk) and 2” (5 cm) wide
*Finished size will vary according to yarn selection and personal gauge.

Materials
Yarn:
Fingering weight yarn in:
MC (tree): approx. 4g
CC1 (trunk): approx. 1g
CC2 (Fair Isle/2-colour garland): approx. 1-2g

Needles:
US 1 (2.25 mm) 32” (80 cm) circular needle to work magic loop
US 1 (2.25 mm) dpns to work i-cord

Notions:
Lockable stitch marker (optional)
2 stitch holders (or waste yarn if you prefer) to hold trunk sts
1 large-eyed tapestry needle
1 smaller sewing needle
