A perfect introductory project for beginners in thread & steel hook (lace!) crochet, this cute little guy is a granny star, but with a single crochet worked into the middle of the point chain, rather than the typical picot, or simple long chain.

Two short rounds with only the most basic stitches, it exercises all the special skills needed for thread & steel hook crochet in the most painless way possible. Once you’ve done your first 10 or 20 of these (or 100, I don’t know), the sky’s the limit!

This star is a great one to block, stiffen, and hang on a small tree, but it’s just as cute unblocked. Since it works up so quickly, you can make bunches of these, and come up with all kinds of fun uses. I know you can -- you’re so creative!
