Tip-to-cuff Two Needle Gloves
“The gloves shown here are unconventional in construction; you knit all the fingers from the tips down on two needles, and then join them in one round… The fingers and the first few rounds of the hand are worked inside out, which eliminates the drawing in that so often accompanies color-stranded knitting.”
“For the expert knitter.”
“Yarn: 1250 yd/lb (2512 m/kg), 12 wraps/in (19/4 cm). Beverly’s yarn is a very lofty 2-ply handspun, similar in weight to a sport yarn. the gloves require about 2 oz (57gg) of light and dark yarn.”
“Needles: One set of five dpn, size 4 (3.5mm), 7 or 8 in (18-20 cm) long, or size to reach gauge given above; 1 set of four dpn two or three sizes smaller for moving and re-arranging sts.
Misc: Eight point protectors; one 10-in (25 cm) single-pointed needle size 4 (3.5 mm) or smaller for holding fingers.
Instructions: (Editor’s note: Double knitting produces a seamless tube while working back and forth in rows. This particular glove design begins at the fingertips and works down, working the tubes inside out until the fingers are joined to the hand. This will prevent carried yarn from pulling too tightly as sometimes happens when the tubes are worked right-side out.)“
