Tiptoe Through the Periwinkles
Ages ago, in the olden times, I learned to knit. I first got yarn, as most people do, from a big, box store, but I soon wanted something fancier. Lucky for me, I lived in the Capital District of New York State and we had an amazing shop called The Periwinkle Sheep.
The shop was wonderful: lots of cool yarns, a fun drop in night, and, most importantly a friendly and knowledgeable owner, Karin. She was always happy to give advice, help make decisions on appropriate yarns, she even taught me to knit Continental style.
Eventually she closed the shop and turned her hand to dyeing yarn instead of just selling it and she’s great at that too. I’ve used a lot of her yarn for my own designs and she’s always been willing to help me realize the vision in my head, no matter how off the wall. So, when she asked me to design something for The Periwinkle Sheep’s 20th anniversary, how could I say no?
This is the first of 11 planned designs coming out before the end of 2022, all using Karin’s fantastic yarns. I took my inspiration from the first half of the company’s name. Karin dyed up a special periwinkle color for this year, so I used a skein of that with a periwinkle flower lace pattern and more in a bright, springy color for the accents on the socks. I hope you like them!
